MONDAY - GOVERNMENT

FOCUS/REVIEW QUESTION: Still unsure what we mean by Public Policy? Read this quick article.

LEARNING TARGETS:

  • What is public policy and what is government's role in it?
  • Choose a public policy issue you would like to learn more about, take a position on and present to the class.

AGENDA:

  • Introduction to THE PUBLIC POLICY PROJECT:
    • Research what Republicans & Democrats have to say on the major issues.
      • Choose 6 topics you may be interested in & search what Democratics
      • Writed down what you found in the Topics handout found in Google Classroom.
    • After researching choose a topic you feel strongly about. - Write it down on topics sign up sheet.
    • Begin your Preliminary Research Summary on your topic (see sheet in Google Classroom)
    • Be sure to keep track of your sources in your Annotated Bibliography (Google Classroom)
    • Start looking up polling data on your topic. How do Americans feel about this?
    • Create your own poll from these to find out your classmates opinions on this topic.
    • Each Day Complete your Public Policy Daily Work Journal - to show what you've accomplished (Found in Google Classroom)
    • Each group must write a Proposal for a Bill (Law) on your Public Policy Topic that you would like to see passed.

  • Begin to research Public Policy Issues that you may want to do your presentation on:
    • Public Policy Issues - Read about some of the big issues facing government today
    • I Side With... Take a look at some polls that ask people about some of the big issues facing Americans today.

  • Keep working on your Public Policy Project!
